Our Marketing Director recently went to a seminar where the program 'Rachel's Challenge' was discussed. Rachel was the first student killed in the Columbine High School attack 11 years ago. Her Father was at this seminar and shared Rachel's story with all of the attendees. The purpose of Rachel's Challenge is to start a chain reaction of kindness - something that Rachel talked a lot about to her friends and family. It seems that Rachel knew that she was destined to make a positive impact and even though she is no longer here with us her story and kindness continue to live on.

The ALL NEW 2011 Kia Optima is here! The new Optima is a sleek and polished looking vehicle with lots of room inside.This Optima is bigger than previous Optima models and seats five comfortably. The 2011 Optima won cars.com's title of 'Best of 2011' stating that 'the Optima delivers outstanding fuel efficiency and a good driving experience.' Edmunds.com named the Optima 'Editor's Most Wanted' and was the only mid-sized sedan honored with that title. Kiplinger's Personal Finance was quick to name the Optima 'Best New Model' along with the Kia Sportage. And last, but certainly not least, IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) named the 2011 Kia Optima as 'Top Safety Pick' because of its front, side, rollover, and rear impact protection.

This year The Southern Hospitality Automotive Group (including Greenbrier GMC) provided Christmas gifts and clothes to over 75 underprivileged children through their Santa's Helpers Program. A party to distribute the gits was held on Sunday, December 19th. The children's families also received a food box with a complete holiday meal plus a turkey.
Santa's Helpers is a huge success due in part to the fundraising efforts and out-of-pocket contributions by the Southern Auto Group employees as well as the generous support of their business partners.
A BIG THANKS to the Marriot in Chesapeake for the use of a ballroom, Astro Disc Jockeys for the awesome entertainment, Sar one Photography for the memorable pictures with Santa and Greenbrier GMC, EasyCare/APCO, Orlando Business, The Virginian-Pilot, Pilot Direct, Century Towing Services, Cox Media, J. The ALL NEW 2011 Kia Sportage has arrived! The styling of this new model is much sleeker than those of the past and makes for a car that is not only a pleasure to drive but also nice to look at. One of the coolest things about the 2011 Kia Sportage is the Hands-Free Multimedia System as well as voice activated controls. You will be able to speak multiple commands to your Kia and it will oblige happily (examples: cell phone dialing, GPS, and more).
Another new and very useful option on the 2011 Sportage is its all-wheel-drive-system. This can be ordered as an option when selecting your vehicle. There have been improvements made to the interior of the vehicle as well such as an air-cooled driver's seat - perfect on those hot summer days.
It's an exciting time for Kia as well as for the Kia consumer.

THE ALL NEW 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is now here at Greenbrier Volkswagen! This VW is much more stylish than the Jettas of the past. The VW fan will see right off of the bat that the front end and grille are very different than the Jettas from prior years. This 2011 Jetta has an overall longer shape as well as a roomy interior which can seat up to six people.
So while the outside of the Jetta may have a new look, the mechanics of the 2011 Jetta should be very familiar to the Volkswagen consumer. For example: 2.5 liter 5-cylinder (and 2.0-liter four) engine as well as an option for a TDI turbodiesel model (arriving laterthis year). And maybe the most exciting part, a gasoline-electric Jetta debuting in early 2012. You will also have the option of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
Now for the great part - the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is completely affordable. The base model will run around $16,000 (features like A/C, remote keyless entry are included). Volkswagen has made it a goal to sell more cars and this new 2011 Jetta is a step in the right direction.

Southern Hospitality Automotive Group and The Youth Football and Cheerleading Leagues have teamed up together to participate in a fundraiser supporting the City of Chesapeake Parks and Recreation. Both the football team and the cheerleading squad will be selling raffle tickets from July 27th to October 16th, 2010 for a chance to win a Brand New 2011 GMC Terrain donated by Greenbrier GMC Supercenter, part of SHAG.
The kickoff for this event will happen on Saturday August 28th when Greenbrier GMC Supercenter will be hosting a FREE lunch cookout at 1300 S. Military Highway in Chesapeake. The cookout will be held from 11am to 2pm with plenty of raffle tickets on sale! We welcome all players, coaches, and parents to stop by and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, and prize giveaways.
In addition to the 2011 GMC Terrain, Greenbrier GMC will also be raffling off a large screen HD television. These tickets will be on sale for only $1.00 each and the drawing will take place on November 1st, 2010. The raffle tickets for the 2011 GMC Terrain are $5.00 each and the National Drawing will be held around November 8th, 2010.

Southern Hospitality Automotive Group, which owns Greenbrier Chrysler-Jeep dealership in Chesapeake, plans to buy its smaller rival, Green Gifford Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Norfolk.
In doing this, Shag Auto will add Ram and Dodge vehicles into its already large inventory. This merger will bring four brands together; Chrysler, Ram, Dodge and Jeep - all under the Southern Hospitality umbrella.
Shag Auto will be keeping both locations - the current Greenbrier Chrysler Jeep store at 1414 South Military Highway and the new location which is by the Norfolk airport. There will be a name change as Greenbrier Chrysler Jeep will now be known as 'Southern Chrysler Jeep' and Green Gifford will be renamed 'Southern Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram'.
Green Gifford offers more to the Shag Auto group than just inventory and an added car dealership, Shag will also be gaining another collision center as well as multiple service bays. CEO of Shag Auto, William Shepherd stated, "To Southern Hospitality, Green Gifford's Service Capacity is as important as its sales."
Green Gifford turns into 'Southern Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram' on August 16th.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been totally redesigned for 2011 and is arriving at dealerships now. It will be the biggest and fanciest SUV that Jeep has to offer. It is available with two-wheel drive or three different versions of four-wheel drive.
The 2011 model has more room than its predecessor, especially in the back-seat. It has more power as well with a Base V-6 engine. Besides these great features it is also less expensive than the 2010 model and more fuel-efficient.

Kia Motors American (KMA) announced that the 2010 Kia Soul was named one of the 'Top 10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000' for a second year in a row by Kelley Blue Book. Some things that the judges look at when picking the 'Top 10 Coolest' is safety, comfort, fuel economy, size of interior, and the technological features of the vehicle.
The Soul is a fun, funky ride and was just introduced to the Kia line-up last year. It has also been named one of the Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 2010.

A study has been conducted to show what the top 9 cars are that are bought mostly by women. TrueCar.com used vehicle registrations over the past two years to come to the conclusion about what women were typically purchasing in the auto world.
The Volkswagen Beetle is the number one car most likely to be purchased by a female. Over 56% of those who had registered Volkswagen Beetle's were women.
Other vehicles that were purchased by women:
- Kia Sportage
- Vw Eos
In fact, the Kia brand had the highest percentage of of female registrants. The study conducted by TrueCar.com looked at the name that was registered (did not examine who made the purchase decision or who would actually be driving the car).

Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Jetta TDI have both received high honors from Kiplinger's - the Golf has been named Best in Class, Best New Car Under $20,000, while the Jetta TDI has been named Best in Class for Cars Between $20,000 - $25,000.

We feel that as a part of this community we need to do our part to find a cure for this dreaded disease. We feel that it is of the utmost importance to find a cure, and we ask that you help us fight this beast. We all have friends and family who have fought this battle. Some have won and some have lost.

On Sunday, December 20, The Southern Hospitality Automotive Group held its annual Santa's Helpers Holiday Event (complete with a visit from Santa). For the past fifteen years, SHAG employees have provided Christmas to underprivileged families in the South Hampton Roads Area. Jeep named Top Domestic Brand in Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com 2010 Residual Value study. According to the annual resale value analysis, new 2010 Jeep brand vehicles will maintain 35.7 perfect of their original value after five years of ownership - more than 3 percent above industry average.

Automobile Magazine's '2010 Automobile of the Year' is the Volkswagen GTI. The GTI was also given this honor three years ago and now secures it's place again for the second time. The Volkswagen GTI is the only make and model to receive the award twice in the twenty years that Automobile Magazine has been choosing a car of the year. Lincoln is introducing their all new 2010 Lincoln MKT - a vehicle that has the spacious interior of a full-size utility, the comfort of a luxury sedan, and the performance of a sporty roadster. The

GMC has introduced it's all new 2010 vehicle the 'Terrain'. The Terrain is one step below the Acadia in terms of size and is replacing the GMC Envoy. One of the best features of the Terrain is its great gas mileage, getting up to 32 mpg on the highway. Consumers can pick from two kinds of engines, a 2.4-liter-four-cylinder or a 3.0 liter. The 2.4 will allow for the 32 mpg highway, however the 3.0 packs a powerful 264 horsepower. The Terrain has many standard and available features such as standard rear vision camera, remote vehicle start, MP3 playback, a seven inch touch screen navigation system and more!

Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced both the Tiguan and CC have earned Consumers' Top Rated Vehicle Awards from Edmunds.com.
Edmunds.com is an online automotive research organization that provides complete, accurate and unbiased automotive information used to help consumers make informed automotive purchases and ownership decisions.
Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of American Inc. stated, "
It is a tremendous honor for the Volkswagen Brand to have our CC and Tiguan earn Consumers' Top Rated Vehicle Awards from Edmunds.com. Having our vehicles recognized for their fun-to-drive appeal and for their craftsmanship from our owners and the editors of the highly esteemed Edmunds.com further validates the hard work and dedication of our engineers and designers."
According to Edmunds.com the 2009 Volkswagen CC took top honors in their Consumers' Top Rated Sedan between $25,000 and $35,000 catagory because of the CC's 'combination of generous standard features, seductive exterior styling and high quality interior.' They went on to say that their readers rave about the CC's comfortable two-tone seating, responsive and quiet ride, Dynaudio sound system and the three years of free maintenance that Volkswagen offers on all of its 2009 models.
The 2009 Tiguan brought home the top honors in the SUV under $25,000 category. Edmunds.com says that there is 'much to recommend in all trims of this spunky little SUV.' How much do you think the color of your car matters? According to Matthew de Paula at MSN Auto it matters quite a bit! He writes in his article "Color Matters", 'While traditional car finishes are still popular among U.S. consumers, paints inspired by rich, dark espressos, multi-hued music devices, and cell phones are quickly gaining acceptance."
While basic colors such as red, white, black, and blue have always been popular among the auto industry, lately the popularity of trendier colors are quickly catching up with a more traditional look. Of course, with car color it's all about personal preference.
For example, the color white - many people, for many years have seen this color as boring. However, now that white is being presented on a car with sparkle and pearl finishes, it is now the most popular car color in America.
Also the color black, 'the second most popular color according to DuPont', is also being dressed up with sparkle effects within the paint. John Watts, senior manager of product planning at Acura, states that 'black is his company's best selling color and makes up 25% of total sales in North America' according to the "Color Matters" MSN Autos article.
In a DuPont survey of different car colors white and black ranked first and second place respectively, followed by silver, blue, gray, red, beige/brown, green, and yellow/gold.
However, it's not just about the natural colors you're used to seeing on an automobile, lately there has been an explosion of bright and bold colors. de Paula states, 'Automakers are focusing efforts on small cars, and as new modles come to market, bright colors with blossom.' Bright colors make a great splash onto smaller cars.
So in the next year, be on the look out for cars in colors such a bright fuchsia, lime green, neon blue, and electric orange. Color is central to how people view the world, and now that view is about to get a little brighter!

Just Announced...
Consumers Are Eligible To Deduct The State Sales Taxes Paid!
The following is from a recently published NADA Legislative Bulletin pertaining to the Consumer Auto Incentive in the Final Stimulus Bill.
"Purchasers of NEW cars and trucks between February 17, 2009 and December 31, 2009, are eligible to deduct the state sales taxes paid! This is an "Above-the-Line" Federal tax deduction which means purchasers will not have to itemize in order to claim it. The deduction is limited to the sales tax paid on purchases of up to $49,500. The overall amount of your deduction is directly proportional to the cost of the new vehicle purchased. Based on a tax multiplier of .03 (3% Virginia state sales tax for NEW vehicles), here are some examples...

Right now we are getting ready for our annual American Red Cross Blood Drive. This year it is called the "Arctic Blast Blood Drive" and will be held on Thursday, January 15th from 1pm to 4pm at our Greenbrier Chrysler-Jeep Preowned Center. If you have the opportunity, feel free to come out and donate one of the best gifts you could ever give. Don't worry, for those of you who are scared of needles we have professional 'hand-squeezers' which will be at your disposal for the event.
Also, each donor will automatically be entered to win a Pontiac Solstice Convertible!

We received this kind email from Mrs. Amy B. of Virginia Beach and wanted to share it with you in its entirety...
"Dear Shag Auto,
We are so pleased with our new Dodge Avenger!!! The entire experience at Greenbrier Chrysler-Jeep was excellent.
We originally found four cars on the Greenbrier Chrysler-Jeep internet site and contacted Gayle Schultz (Internet Manager) to set up an appointment to see them. We were greeted by Warren Welch (Salesman) who introduced us to Gayle. She quickly gave Warren the run-down of what we were looking for in a new car and he went to work. We found the four cars we had researched and all of them were exactly as pictured. All of them were in excellent condition with the exact price that was quoted on the internet.
When we decided on the right one, Warren helped us through the pricing and contract process and within an hour we were well on our way to owning our new car. We spoke to Bea Artzer (Delivery Coordinator) about the wonderful Southern Hospitality Advantage Program - a program that we have on our current vehicle - and the other options that were available. Then we were whisked off to talk to Frank Stacier (F&I) about the various warranty plans, GAP insurance, and glass etching safety features. We decided on the package that was best for us and Frank printed up the contracts. We signed all the papers and with Frank's "bells and whistles" we had our new car! Warren had the car cleaned and the tank filled with gas, and off we went.
With our busy schedules and in the midst of the holiday season, it was wonderful to have this transaction completed so effortlessly. And we had a lot of laughs with Warren; he was terrific!

If Greenbrier
Volkswagen were a classroom, then the newly introduced 2009 Volkswagen CC
would be its star pupil. The CC has quickly become the most searched vehicle on
our Greenbrier Volkswagen website, and this month the CC has taken over the
most viewed spot from the always popular Volkswagen Jetta.
The CC is definitely gaining a fan base at GVW, and
quickly; the interest in this vehicle is no surprise though as it offers what
Volkswagen is known for – affordable luxury. Despite that with which Volkswagen
always seems to deliver on (popular, reasonably priced slices of comfort) the CC is also the most visually stimulating of the Volkswagen

Katie Eck, the marketing assistant at The Southern Hospitality Automotive Group, wanted to share some Holiday spirit with you all and inform you of a special project that SHAG participates in every year.
Katie writes, "For the past 10 years, The Southern Hospitality Automotive Group has been participating in a program called Santa's Helpers. It's our way to help out those families in the Hampton Roads area that need a little extra help over the Christmas season. We are given between 50 - 75 children who we provide 2 toys, a jacket and a set of clothes for, plus we put together a food basket for the family with all the fixings for a delicious Holiday dinner.
SHAG then hosts a Christmas party the weekend before Christmas where Santa comes and hands out the childrens' presents. Food and refreshments are provided along with crafts for the kids. This year we will also be having a deejay and karaoke. Throughout the years SHAG's employee participation in this program has been excellent!"

Katie writes, "For the past 10 years, The Southern Hospitality Automotive Group has been participating in a program called Santa's Helpers. It's our way to help out those families in the Hampton Roads area that need a little extra help over the Christmas season. We are given between 50 - 75 children who we provide 2 toys, a jacket and a set of clothes for, plus we put together a food basket for the family with all the fixings for a delicious Holiday dinner.
SHAG then hosts a Christmas party the weekend before Christmas where Santa comes and hands out the childrens' presents. Food and refreshments are provided along with crafts for the kids. This year we will also be having a deejay and karaoke. Throughout the years SHAG's employee participation in this program has been excellent!"

Happy Tuesday everyone! We have received more positive feedback from you, our customers, and we are very appreciative of your participation in our new endeavor.
Jolene Unger-Sharp was kind enough to write in to us about her recent purchasing experience. Jolene write, "I love my new Chrysler 300!!!! Dave Adkins was my sales rep and went out of his way to make sure I got the best deal possible. He did not pressure me or rush me into buying a car that I was not comfortable purchasing. {Greenbrier Chrysler-Jeep} shopped around for me to make sure I got the best financing possible."
Ms. Unger-Sharp was also pleased with our Aftermarket team, "Erika (from Aftermarket) explained all the warranty options to make sure my Chrysler stayed in new condition even though it is a 2007. Every department I dealt with kept my best interest in mind while staying within my budget."
Also she states how pleased she has been with our signature Southern Hospitality Program, "When they say Southern Hospitality, they mean it, and it starts with day one. I will NEVER consider shopping at any other dealer. Greenbrier had the best selection and service. They personalized my purchase every step of the way. I went in to the dealer to just shop around and did a lot of homework first. I had no idea that I was not going to hear a bunch of fast talk. Not only did they sell me the car of my dreams but they have gained a customer for life!"
Also Virginia Miller was satisfied with her service visit at Lynnhaven Kia. She had an oil change and a tire rotation done on her brand new Kia Optima. Virginia writes that the "service people were great!"

Robert B. Sigafoes, M.D., writes "I was extremely pleased with my experience at Tysons Dodge-Jeep where I bought my new Jeep Liberty 4x4 Limited." His salesperson, Jeff Bladeck, answered his questions in great detail. "I could not be any happier with my new Liberty. I like everything about it from its stylish new exterior design to its ergonomically designed interior to its fine instrumentation to its great handling and comfort to its fantastic MYGIG radio/phone/navigation system."
Dr. Sigafoes was even impressed with his salesman's service after the sale. He needed a place to store his vehicle for a month and Jeff came through with a location and car cover for Dr. Sigafoes.

Betty O’ Bryan writes that she loves her new Chrysler PT Cruiser.
Joseph S. Donnell really likes his Kia Optima, "Very well appointed for a small car, with all the automation I want. It’s a good looking car with a well made (well fitted) body.” His salesman, Nat Williams, was very helpful in the sale!
Mr. Weinberger only buys American made RWD automobiles. Only a few meet his expectations in today’s market, “A strong contender is the Mercury Grand Marquis. The Grand Marquis is a beautifully designed full-size car, has remarkable handling characteristics, has dependable rear wheel drive, and a respectable horse-power per weight ratio which equates to excellent gas mileage. Considering the car is priced under 30K it is a steal in today’s market…and I look forward to ordering my 2009.”
